Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame
Brian Armstrong, a native of Helena, Mont., is a 1998 graduate of the University of Montana Western. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education.
He was football and wrestling letterman for the Bulldogs from 1992-1995. Armstrong was a member of the Bulldog teams that won three straight Frontier Conference championships.
The 1994 team hosted the first ever NAIA playoff game as they beat Glenville State (W.V.) in the quarter finals and lost to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the semifinals.
In 1995, the Bulldogs lost to Central State (Ohio) in the playoffs and finishing seventh in the nation. Armstrong was named first team all-conference in both 1994 and 1995. In 1995, he earned first team American honors.
His fondest memories of Montana Western were beating Glenville State in 1994 and "lots and lots of bus trips.”
Armstrong began his coaching career serving as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs from 1996-1997. Armstrong was a high school coach in Utah, Montana and in Florida where he was named Tampa Tribune Coach of the Year, Lakeland Ledger Coach of the Year, and Polk County Coach of the Year.
Armstrong was the head football coach at Rocky Mountain College for seven seasons. He was named Frontier Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2013. His 2013 team qualified for the NAIA playoffs. He currently ranks second on the Rocky Mountain College all-time wins list as a head coach. Armstrong was an offensive coach for Montana State for seven years, one year as the offensive line coach for the Fresno State Bulldogs and currently is the run game coordinator for the University of Nevada-Reno.
