Kelly, a rancher, outfitter, and coach, lettered in both basketball and track for four years at Western, from 1973-1977. He was named Track Man of the Year and was a Frontier Conference winner in the 880, the mile, the 3-mile, and the steeple-chase in 1974. In 1976 he won the mile and 3-mile race; while in 1977 he captured first place in the 880, the mile and 3-mile events. Kelly still enjoys coaching distance runners and has volunteered as the Broadwater County High School distance coach for the last decade. The highlight of his Western sports experience came the day he captured four Frontier Conference track titles in several hours. He and his wife, Jill, have a daughter, Shannon.
