Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame
Earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Communications and Technology from the University of Montana Western in 2000.
During his time playing for the Bulldog football squad, Murgel was a First Team All-Conference Defensive Lineman in 1998 and 1999 and a NAIA All-American honorable mention in 1999. He tallied 14 sacks in nine games in the 1999 season, including four sacks in one game against Montana State University-Northern. He was also the team captain in 1999.
Murgel said his most memorable moments at Montana Western came from the longstanding relationships he formed with his teammates. The most important moments for Murgel, however, came in 2000 when he earned his degree.
For the past 10 years Murgel has worked for Intermountain, a nonprofit dealing with mental health and child welfare. Murgel has served as a counselor in school and other programs throughout the agency and over the last three years he has become the director of outpatient services.
Murgel is also a boys basketball coach at Helena High School, but he spends the majority of his time with his wife Sara and their two daughters, Maddy (9) and Grace (5). The Murgels live in East Helena.
