Maier Miller, a native of Big Timber, Mont.; is a 1962 graduate of Western Montana College with a Bachelor of Science in secondary education.
Miller was a two-time Montana Collegiate Conference (MCC) all-conference basketball selection. After the 1961-62 season, the Bulldog starting five were all selected to the all-conference, two on the first team and three on the second team. He was a three MCC conference and district championship teams
In addition to basketball, Miller was a star on the cinders. He was part of three straight Bulldog conference track and field champions. He won conference and district individual titles in the high jump, high and low hurdles,  and as part of the mile relay team.
Miller was a two-time qualifier for the NAIA national meet in the high jump and as a leg of the mile relay team. In 1961, he set a school high jump record of 6-4.
He excelled in the classroom maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Miller was very active in various campus organizations during his four years at Western. During his senior year, he was president of the M-Club and was selected to Who’s Who.Â
He began his teaching and coaching career in Great Falls and later Polson. He lost a brave and courageous battle with cancer on April 10, 1973. He was just 33 years old.
His wife Susie Miller created the Maier Miller Memorial Scholarship given to a two-sport Bulldog student-athlete with high scholastic achievements and leadership qualities.Â
