Guy Melby, a native of Sidney, Mont., is a 1986 graduate of Western Montana College with a Bachelor of Science in secondary education with a social science broad field major and an industrial arts minor. He received a Masters in Education in 2007.
He was a two-year first team all-conference selection at linebacker and a two-year selection as team captain. Melby was a three-time academic all-conference selection.
He was a member of the M-Club including a one-year term as club president. Melby was also a member of the industrial arts club and selected to Who’s Who.
After graduation, Melby returned to his home town and his alma mater to begin a successful  teaching and coaching career. He was a football assistant coach for 36 years in which Sidney High School won seven state football championships.
He will begin his 39th year as Sidney’s head wrestling coach. His teams have won 26 divisional titles, 13 state titles, nine state runner-up finishes, five, third place state finishes. He has coached 90 individual state champions and 465 individuals who have placed at state. His teams have won 667 duals.
Melby has been selected Montana Coach of the Year 13 times and national coach of the year once. He was selected AAU National Man of the Year in 2002. In addition to being a member of the Bulldog Hall of Fame, Melby is also a member of the Montana Coaches Hall of Fame in 2010 and the AAU National Coaches Hall of Fame in 2007.
He was the recipient of the AAU Lifetime Achievement Award. Melby is the Director of the Montana National Duals team and the Montana Middle School National Duals team. He serves on the Montana High School Association Rules Committee.
As of this update (2024), Melby is still teaching and coaching at Sidney High School with no plans to retire anytime soon.
