John “Bun” Wenger, a native of Dillon, Mont., was a 1951 graduate of Western Montana College with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education with a major in social studies and minors in English and science. He later earned a Masters in Education from the University of Montana.

Wenger won the 1949 Montana Collegiate Conference (MCC) golf championship. He shot a 81 in the final round after firing a 77 in the first round.

His professional education career spanned 28-years. Wenger taught at the elementary, junior high and high school levels in the northwestern United States. He went on to serve school districts in Helena, Stevensville and Ennis as an elementary school principal.

After retirement, Wenger took a skill he first learned as a young man to the highest level, becoming a master club builder. He was a member of the Professional Golf Club Repairman and Club Makers Association.

In 1980, he received the Western Montana College Outstanding Alumni Award. Wenger and his wife Chickie were married for 59 years. He passed away Sept. 28, 2005.
