Montana Western, University of

A native of Vancouver, Washington transferred to Western form North Idaho College. In 1993, he was the 118 pound National Runner-up and an All-American. The following year, Fossen won the national 118 pound titles as Western won the NAIA National Championship. He was the Bulldogs’ team champion in 1994 and voted by his teammates as the Outstanding Wrestler of the Year. He was coached at Western by T.J. Nelson, Travis Krawl, Jim Guilio, TR Williams and Ernie Molena. His teammates included Paul Pownall, Larry Garrison, Rich Vasquez and Hall of Famer Cory Bolton to mention a few. His most memorable moment if his collegiate career was winning the individual national championship and Western winning the team title. Fossen graduated in 2002 from MSU-Great Falls with a degree in Surgical Technology. He is currently a Certified Surgical Technologist at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls. Fossen is a member of the Association of Surgical Technologists and is a member of the MSU-Great Falls Advisory Board for the Surgical Technology program. Shawn and his wife Dena Wagner-Fossen live in Great Falls.
