Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame
Claude “Skip” Ankeny, a native of Victor, Mont., is a 1954 graduate of Western Montana College. In 1952, Ankeny and Ron Lee won the Montana Collegiate Conference (MCC) tennis doubles championship.
One year later, Ankeny and Lee successfully defended their doubles title with a straight set win over the doubles team of Carroll College. Ankeny beat Ken Crondall of Eastern Montana College in straight sets. It was the first time in school history the Bulldogs had swept both the conference doubles and singles titles.
Ankeny enlisted in the army after graduation. After his discharge, he began his career in Dillon, Mont. school system as teacher, activities director, and the assistant principal at Beaverhead County High School.
In 1985, he received the “Outstanding Principal Award” from the Montana Association of Secondary School Principals. Ankeny retired in 1987.
He passed away at age 80 on July 5, 2013.
