Jess  “Tootee” Wetzel, a native of Browning, Mont., is a 1938 graduate of the Montana State Normal College (MSNC). Wetzel is recognized in the Hall of Fame for his basketball achievements but could have easily gained induction for his football achievements as well.

In basketball, he was a four-time all conference selection. He led the Bulldogs in scoring in his senior season.

In football, Wetzel was described as a triple-threat player with punting his strength. He averaged 40 yards per punt. He was a skilled defensive back and a running threat on offense.

Wetzel was active in other activities. He served as the president of the men’s glee club, was a talented woodworker in the industrial arts program and was an officer in M-Club.
