Shirley ‘Shy’ Callahan, a native of Three Forks, Mont., was a 1934 graduate of the Montana State Normal College (MSNC). He earned his place in the Hall of Fame and the Bulldog sports history book for being the school’s first four-year letterman and he accomplished the feat in three different sports; basketball, football and baseball.

He captained two Bulldog football teams and three Bulldog basketball teams. At halftime of the final basketball game of his Bulldog career, Callahan was presented an eight-inch block “M” with four bars and a star by MSNC President Sheldon  E. Davis.

The highlight of his senior season came on January 26, 1934 when the Bulldogs downed the Grizzlies of the State University in Missoula 44-35. Callahan was noted for his defensive prowess in the game. He finished the season second in scoring with 10 points per game.

Callahan’s professional career spanned 41 years of teaching, coaching, counseling and administration in Eagle Point, Ore. He passed away Dec. 10, 1981.
