    Meritorious Service Award
No individual possess finer qualifications for this first annual award in recognition of outstanding contributions to Western’s athletic programs.
Over a span of almost four decades, Hobart has provided financial assistance to countless Western athletes, many of whom would have been unable to complete college without his generous aid.
At the same time he has harbored a deep concern for the well-being of Western. Hobart was one of the originators of the 500 Club, whose goal following World War II was securing an enrollment of 500 on the Dillon campus. When that figure was attained in 1960, the organization was renamed EMC Booster Club which continues to enjoy his whole-hearted backing.
Since 1946 he has personally sponsored WMC entries in the Western Invitational Basketball Tournament at Lewistown and, when the WMC Century Club was formed in 1979, Hobart was voted its first president.
A retired Dillon businessman, he continues today as one of Western’s most-valued and respected boosters—a humanitarian in the finest sense of that word.
