Larry Chambers, a native of Albany, Ore., was a 1977 graduate of Western Montana College (WMC) with Bachelor of Science in secondary education with a major in physical education and minors in business and history.
He earned all-conference honors in football as a running back and was a three-time Frontier Conference individual wrestling champion and a member of the 1975 Frontier Conference wrestling championship team. He qualified for the NAIA national wrestling tournament four times.
Chambers was active in Circle K including a one-year term as president and as the club's representative on the interclub council. His Circle K honors included being named Montana’s Circle K’er of the Year.Â
He was a member of M-Club and served two terms as a student representative on the WMC Central Board (student government). In 1977, Chambers was selected to Who’s Who.
He began his professional career in Plentywood, Mont. teaching business education and as an assistant coach in football and wrestling. His next stop was Hamilton, Mont. teaching business education and as an assistant coach in football and wrestling.
He returned to his hometown of Albany, Ore. where taught business education and was an assistant football and wrestling coach for six years.
Chambers returned to WMC in 1985 to revive the Bulldog wrestling program. He was at Western for two years before turning the program over to future hall of famer T.J. Nelson.
He returned to Oregon for a six year stint at Corvallis, Ore. where he taught business education and coached football and wrestling. He closed his career in education at Baker City, Ore. where he taught business education and computer programming and was an assistant wrestling coach.
In 2000, he moved to Helena, Mont. and began a career in information technology (I.T.). He retired in 2019.
