Bob McLeod, a native of Belt, Mont., was a 1957 graduate of Western Montana College with Bachelor of Science in secondary education. He was a three-sport letterman in basketball, football and track.

McLeod was a member of the 1954-55 Montana Collegiate Conference (MCC) basketball c0-conference champions, 55-56 conference basketball champs, the 1954 and 1955 MCC track champs. He was an all-conference selection in basketball.

After graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Eisenhower Peacetime Draft and was stationed at the Ordnance Guided Missile School in Huntsville, Ala.

After his discharge, he began a long and productive career in teaching and coaching at Whitefish High School (WHS) in Whitefish, Mont. He taught biology, driver education, math and science. 

In 1970, McLeod coached the WHS boy’s basketball team to their first ever state championship. He later turned over his coaching reins to become athletic director. 

McLeod became the first athletic director to be elected as president of the Montana High School Association Board of Control. He was inducted into the Whitefish Hall of Fame.

McLeod passed away July 21, 2023.
